"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine and a whole galaxy of multicolored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers...also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of budweiser, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls...but the only thing that worried me was the ether. There was nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible than a man in the depths of an ether binge..."

going to california with an aching in my heart

Incredible photography by the talented andrew kuykendall. I don't think I have ever been more inspired to head down to california this summer...with maybe a polaroid camera and some beautiful friends. I am making a mental note to find a quintessential american motel to take vintage-looking photos in front of. I love the rawness of these pictures more than anything though. Kuykendall has a way of taking ordinary california settings and turning them into a backdrop for grungey glamour. Check out his blog http://andrewkuykendall.blogspot.com/.

where the wild things are

Children wake up,

hold your mistake up,
before they turn the summer into dust.

If the children don’t grow up,
our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up.
We’re just a million little god’s causin rain storms turnin’ every good thing to rust.

I guess we’ll just have to adjust.

With my lighnin’ bolts a glowin’
I can see where I am goin’ to be
when the reaper he reaches and touches my hand.

- Arcade Fire, Wake Up

This editorial makes me want to run amongst the wild things, hair flying, soul young, intentions innocent and a lopsided crown atop my messy head.

masked dreamers

via studdedhearts (this editorial is magical)

A jaded consciousness studded with throbbing impulse

To see in technicolor is to see miracles
Twisted ambition carries me further than my weary legs
If I could install a record player in my head, I would
Playing the music of my existence
How it collaborates with everyone else’s to make magic
Sometimes we have to fight to a considerable magnitude
With demons the result of incessant illusion
You cannot pin me down or I will bolt out of grasp

Did you ever think that maybe life is a dream?

I wrote this poem a while ago and thought it complimented the dream-like editorial nicely. I feel dazed just looking at the perfectly blurry photographs. It's a content daze, though.

velvet records

via studdedhearts

Chloe Sevigny is so cool. She is not only incredibly unique looking, but versatile and somewhat stoic looking. The first four shots are so summery, so effortlessly edgy and real. They look like they were taken by a (skilled) friend with a vintage polaroid camera..such an old school effect. They make me want to spend the summer dancing around and listening to vinyls with all my friends in some California house, maybe in a Nirvana shirt. The last two photographs are also so goddamn brilliant. She looks like a sixties film star on downers.

I am tired, I am weary

I could sleep for a thousand years
A thousand dreams that would awake me
Different colors made of tears

- Lou Reed & the Velvet Underground, Venus in Furs

in the cold, cold night

These were taken this winter, around the distillery district where my friend and I decided to screw around with her beautiful camera. We had fun dashing through back doors of restaurants and prancing around in dresses in minus thirty degree weather. My knees look funny in the last shot..but can you blame me? I was probably entering the premiere stages of hypothermia. The hat makes me look suspiciously Russian...

I like these adventures; I wouldn't ask for anything else
Not knowing how you're going to spend the day, being permanently broke
All you have is a camera and a pack of gum
Sometimes Toronto's not so bad...
And then sometimes I can't wait to get the hell out of here

the third summe of love

I will never tire of this editorial. This is one of those rare fashion stories that doesn't need incredible clothes or breathtaking footwear. Corrine Day makes the magic of summer and 90s grunge seam too appealing. Vintage Kate Moss is like treasure, especially the fourth shot. Cigarette shots at 15, what a girl.

It is the summer of my smiles - flee from me Keepers of the Gloom

Speak to me only with your eyes. It is to you I give this tune
Ain't so hard to recognize - These things are clear to all from
time to time.
- Led Zeppelin, The Rain Song

if you want to sing out, sing out

If you want to sing out, sing out
If you want to be free, be free
There's a million things to be
You know that there are

I love you, Cat Stevens
You and your guitar sing peace anthems
That lull my mind to sleep and my fears to their graves

happy belated Earth Day

Regularely I am not this earthy. Nor do I normally paint my face silver...but I guess I was feeling adventurous. These are also from last year...nostalgia wave again, because I've changed so much. My style, personality and mindset have grown up a bit and maybe become more defined. Don't give me too much applause though. I still have the sense of humor of a twelve year old boy.

I could say these are being posted in honor of Earth Day.
Even though that was a while ago...
Happy belated Earth Day

Side note: shots taken by my friend Victoria, theory dress, weitzman wedges

nostalgia in the form of photographs

This shot was taken about a year ago by my friend and photographer Victoria - note the V I am holding.

For some reason I am getting ridiculously nostalgic right now, I miss being as carefree as I was last year. I liked having fun and not having to worry about consequences...things were so much surer.
Maybe this is coming from my summer adventures that aren't completely set in stone. And because it's me these adventures are on the riskier side; it could go either way. Aw well, it keeps things interesting...I probably wouldn't have it any other way. I just wish I had that summertime mindset, the one with possibilities and feeling that everything will work out in the end. It'll come.

jack and diane minus jack

I am kind of in love with this editorial for vogue.
It doesn't get much more all-american than Karlie Kloss in overalls and holding a baseball mitt.
It's not even the styling really that attracted me to these pictures...it's that retro American thing that I find so fascinating for some strange reason. My favorite shot is the one of Karlie is in the red and white dress...know why? The tv set behind her kills me. It's so great. Sorry Canada, no love.

sam's town

Nobody ever had a dream round here,

but I don't really mind and/that it's starting to get to me
Nobody ever pulls the seams round here,
but I don't really mind and/that it's starting to get to me

I took the shuttle on a shock-wave ride,

where the people on the pen pull the trigger for accolade
I took a bullet, and I looked inside
Running through my veins
An American masquerade

I still remember Grandma Dixie's wake,
I never really known anybody to die before
Red white and blue upon a birthday cake,
My brother, he was born on the fourth of the July...and that's all

- Sam's town, the killers

working class daydream

When school drags on endlessly and you fall into the rut of routine...
pictures speak of untold adventures waiting in the heat of summer sponteniety.

LA I can't wait.
For trashy hotels, neon signs, the contrast of luxury and ruggedness, diners and the simple things that this city will expose me to.
Cliche, maybe
But these pictures do not lie...

Summer come faster please?
You taking your sweet time is making me impatient as hell

Not that it's anything new, but these shots were taken from Oh Snap! photography blog
